Tooth Fillings

Fillings replace tooth structure that has been lost to decay and or fracture.  There are two types of fillings, tooth colored and silver (amalgam).  Most of the fillings done at our practice are tooth colored but there are situations when silver fillings are needed.  Fillings are ideal when the amount of tooth structure to be replaced is moderate or small.  If the restoration is large, stronger material must be used such as those used in porcelain or gold crowns.

Advantages of Tooth-Colored Restorations

There are many advantages to tooth-colored restorations. Resin fillngs are bonded to teeth creating a tight fit to the natural tooth. Such restorations can be used in instances where minimal to moderate amount of tooth structure has been lost which results in a conservative restoration for the tooth.
